Korky at the movies

Here's the final batch of Korky strips. Movie parodies were always fun to do. In fact the Narnia strip I did was the first time I managed to get a full pager into the Dandy. Full pagers are so much more satisfying than the three panel strips I was usually restricted to.
As usual, DC Thomson own the copyright.

Here's some more of my old Korky strips for your delectation.  Copyright DC Thomson.

It's a bit like an annual from the olden days.

Well it's December, actually halfway through this festive month. What happened to 2013?
For the younger me the highlight of my Christmas haul was always the comic annual. I don't think they exist anymore, unless they're TV or Online spin-offs. So that pleasure is no longer around. Except for you lucky lot. Here's some of my old Korky strips from the late Dandy which I think will be new to you as you probably wouldn't have even seen them, being above the target audience.

Of course these are all copyright of DC Thomson.

A bit more Grumpy stuff

Here some examples of the promotional art I did for the Grumpy game. It's interesting to see how the logo used to be, below. Hand drawn is the way forward!

And if you want to experience the joy of owning a Grumpy yourself you can download it from the App Store.

Grumpy - Your Super Deluxe Virtual Pet

Here's the app I spent most of this year working on. 'Grumpy - Your Super Deluxe Virtual Pet'. It's an amazing tamagotchi style game where you have to raise a nonplussed pet. I did all the art for this beauty and I'm dead proud of it. Download it and give it a try. You can get it here and it's free to play.

It's published by Koyoki which is a great place to work for. Have a look at their site and check out their other amazing titles.

Squire McIntyre's Travelling Mythical Petting Zoo

I'm so over illustrating. I've decided writing is the way forward. And to that end (I don't think you're supposed to start a sentence with 'and) I'd proudly like to present to you loyal blog readers my first book.

It's available for your E-Reader from Amazon and it only costs around £3. Don't worry there are a few pictures in it but the story should go down well with the 9-11 demographic as the all the publishers that rejected me, soullessly told me.

If you like ghosts, mythical beasts and a healthy mix of adventure and humour then this is the story for you. It's set in the merrie days of the Elizabethan era too, so give it a go if you're a fan of historical fiction too.

I am dead proud of this endeavour and I hope you'll like it too. Please download and read and let me know what you think.

Dear Leader

I'm loving playing Animal Crossing at the moment. I even put my own face on the flag - and you can have it in your town too if you want - and why wouldn't you?

It's always a treat to see my animal residents sporting my visage on their clothes.

Don't have nightmares.

(Gay) Bear & Ragged Staff

I notice that this year Warwickshire is having a Pride in Leamington for the first time. Growing up in Kenilworth I'm familiar with the county's emblem and they've missed a trick with their logo. I did this little cartoon of the 'Bear' & Ragged Staff and posted it on their Facebook Page. Go there, 'Like' and support them as there's not much gay going on in that county.

White Noise Madrid

Hey! I forgot to tell you. The other week I was catching up with friends in Madrid (an amazing place which seems to be Spain's best kept secret - I was expecting it to be the Spanish version of Birmingham - no offence, I love Brum, but you know what I mean). By happy coincidence the Pictoplasma people were running a show at La Casa Encendida in this lovely city while I was there and a tiny piece of my work managed to slip in. The show is called White Noise and here's the deets.

If you're in Madrid you need to see this show. Like everything Pictoplasma does it's ace and well worth a visit. Go to Madrid too - it's better than you think. The Spanish tourist association can have that tag line for free.

Seriously - Madrid is a fantastic place. Why don't they push it? It should be a major destination but no one knows anything about it.

Cavey's 3rd Birthday

Can it be three years since Cavey first came into our lives? It can and it is. And to celebrate this milestone my good friend and Cavey Mother, Holly AKA A Little Stranger will be staging a party in the rocking rodent's honour.

Displayed for your viewing pleasure will be over 40 custom Cavies featuring all your favourite artists and me. All these beauties will be for sale so get involved and invest. This shindig will be held at the Fleet River Bakery in London on Friday eve. All the deets can be found here so come along and say hello. I hear rumours there'll be cake there to.....

Mushroom Cavern

I'm trying to convert the Squire McIntyre novel into an e-book this weekend. Well I was until I discovered I was a few illustrations short. I'm just rectifying that.

Here's a scene when our characters find a bone in a mysterious cave. You really need to read this book.

If you want to get involved with the Squire and find out when I manage to get the book out there you can with ease, by liking the Squire McIntyre Facebook page.

St George's Dragon

It's St George's day today, so that's as good an excuse as any to draw a dragon. Eng-ger-land!

An arctic fox, a baby yeti and a snowman riding a narwhal during an ice cream storm

I haven't blogged for ages - I've just been super busy. How about this t make up for me being a Slack Alice? I don't think I've posted it before. An arctic fox, a baby yeti and a snowman riding a narwhal during an ice cream storm.

Zoo plankton zoo

It's the world's smallest zoo. Put your fingers in the plankton petting pool if you want. They love a tickle.

Sea Bishops old and new.

Here's another Sea Bishop I did and below you can see how they looked in the olden days. I love the images of animals, made up or otherwise you see on Medieval and Tudor wood cuts.

Sea Bishop

I'm always super impressed with the ink pictured of Jonathan Edwards and he told me all about the wonders of brush pens. So I thought I'd tryt some. A lot of the outlines in my usual fare are done with a black pentel brush pen, but these ones with the squeezy re-fillable abdomens (I'm sure that's the technical term) are so much fun to use.

Here's a sea bishop, which probably has an ink sac so I'm starting off relevant...

The Jones

Regard this handsome specimen in all its three dimensional beauty. It's Matt JOnes beautifully rendered by Caitlin Ashford based on a little drawing I did. It's a perfect likeness.

Long playing

Here's a detail from a piece I created for the upcoming vinyl based show that the lovely chaps at Flatties are organising. All the canvases are old records. Remember them? Don't worry I'll keep you posted so you won't miss where and when it's on so keep your eyes on Calamari Royale and I'll see you there in the Spring.
